The Snowquads, also known as electric sleds, are vehicles designed for winter touring and driving on snow.
It is designed to operate on snow and ice and does not require roads or trails, but is mostly on open terrain or innovative drives. Snowmobiling is a sport that many people take seriously.
The last snowmobile can generally accommodate two people. However, most snow quads made in the past 25 years can only accommodate one person. Snowmobiles that can accommodate two people are known as “two-passenger” snow bikes or “touring” models and have a small share of the market.
Snow vehicles don’t have any enclosure except for the windshield, and their engines usually run continuously in the rear. Skis in the front provide directional control.
Early snow ATVs used simple rubber tracks, but modern snowmobile tracks are usually made of Kevlar composite construction. Initially, snowmobiles used two-stroke gasoline internal combustion engines, and since the mid-2000s, four-stroke engines have also entered the market.
The second half of the 20th century saw the rise of recreational snow quad, whose occupants were called snowmobiles or sleds. Recreational riding is known as cross-country skiing, track riding, freestyle, bouncing, ditching, and mowing. In summer, snow vehicles can drag races on grass, asphalt, and even on water. Snowmobiles are sometimes modified for long-distance off-road racing.
legitimacy
Depending on the jurisdiction, there may be penalties for driving outside a licensed area without a licensed helmet, without a driver’s license, on an unregistered snowmobile, or while under the influence of alcohol or other substances. There may also be regulations regarding noise and wildlife.
driver’s license
In some jurisdictions, driving a snow quad bike requires a driver’s license. In Norway and Sweden, for example, a specific snowmobile driver’s license is required. In Finland, a driver’s license for snowmobiles is not required if the driver already has another type of appropriate driver’s license (e.g. car or tractor).
