Do you know how snowmobiles work?

Snowmobile engines are very similar to those on a personal jet ski.

The snowmobile engine is connected to a crawler that turns the tracks. The track of a snowmobile basically consists of larger gears with evenly distributed gear teeth and corresponding holes in the track.

Each turn of the gears provides power to the track, which drives the snowmobile forward. The faster the engine spins, the faster the gears spin, and the faster the tracks move.

Snowmobiles are also fitted with a clutch system, which is the most basic type of continuously variable transmission based on pulleys. This system consists of two pulleys or clutches connected together by a drive belt.

The main clutch is located on the engine crankshaft. A compression spring controls the main clutch, which opens in half when the engine is at low revs. When the engine begins to accelerate, the weight of the clutch creates enough centrifugal force to close the clutch, allowing the belt to move freely and transmit power.

A continuously variable transmission can smoothly move back and forth between an infinite number of “gears” depending on the speed and power required. The tracks of a snowmobile are similar to those of a tank, but there are some differences.

Snowmobile tracks are made of lighter rubber, which increases mobility and speed.

Tank tracks can usually steer and drive the vehicle, while snowmobile steering is controlled by handlebars and skis.

Snowmobile tracks also provide traction on slippery surfaces like snow and ice, where regular-wheeled vehicles slip.

Wide and rough treads create friction between the snowmobile and the surface, giving the snowmobile more grip.

Most snowmobiles have added pointed bolts to their tracks, which act as wedges on sneakers, and penetrate a little into ice or hard snow, cutting holes in the surface to keep the track on a particularly smooth surface. a place to grip the ice surface more tightly.

The snowmobile can be steered by turning the handlebars in the same way as a bicycle or motorcycle.
The handlebars are connected to links near the front end of the snowmobile, which in turn are connected to the skis mounted on the bottom bracket of the snowmobile. When you turn the handlebars, you turn the ski in the same direction.

Shock absorbers play an important role in providing a comfortable and stable ride.
The purpose of springs and shock absorbers is similar to that in mountain bikes, allowing riders to use the mobility of skis and the stability of tracked vehicles to steer their vehicles.
